Everyone talks a good game about how they want to be successful.
Everyone I meet wants to make a million dollars, fuck supermodels, live in a highrise penthouse apartment, build schools in Africa… they believe that some day they will achieve those things.
They have no plans to make that happen, nor do they actually take action that would move them towards those goals.
Most people, don’t even do the most basic of things… which is research… the first damn step.
Then you have the second level of people, who research endlessly… getting every perspective on how to begin, what the right method is, how to save time and frustration while attempting their goals.
They get stuck there. They consume endless amounts of information hoping that somehow, but knowing what to do… they will do what they know or what they desire will come to them because of what they know.
This is wishful thinking… in fact. Their desires are just wishes, hopes, or requests… but without a real plan of action and execution those dreams will never be realized.
Then you have the third level of people… who actually ‘try’ or make an attempt at succeeding at their dreams… but they do not go ‘all in’ or ‘balls deep’.
They simply dabble about and when they don’t get a quick result… they give up and move on to another dream or goal completely abandoning the original goal.
The gym is a great example of this… every new years resolution-er drops out of their commitment to get into shape within a couple of weeks of joining their new gym.
January the gym is filled, by February I am lifting with the gym to myself… I have the mirrors to do my stretching yoga and shadowboxing freed up again.
Because this third type of person is a dabbler.
But anyone who is successful is committed to the long haul… they are like a Marine… they know that it is going to be painful, challenging, frustrating, and tiring…. But they show up every day and change their approach until they get their desired result.
If you want to make that million dollars… how will you do that? Why do you want it?
Go take one step towards making that first million… it doesn’t have to be a big step… maybe choose a meetup to go to, or networking event, create an offer, begin reading quality books.
Commit to throwing out your junk food and eating only healthy foods from now on. Go on a run.
Next… comes the fifth tier of person… the adaptable, resilient, relentless achiever. This is the one who will actually make it. I estimate this is most likely around .0001% of the population.
I have worked with these people… they are relentless (like myself)… they are never satisfied.
They are always setting new goals, going HARD, for them each and every day… and achieving some of them and failing at others.
When they fail… do they sit and cry? Pout? Bitch and moan?
Not for long… they get up… dust off… and try again… and again… and again…
They read quality information in books…. they try new strategies…. they utilize the information… they fail again and again… but eventually they find a way.
This is the way that skyscrapers are built, NBA championships are won, and capitalism and all success has its roots in resilience.
You must be able to suffer gracefully with a smile on your face while you are going for your goals…. remember you are responsible for the quality of your outcomes in life.
Nobody is forcing you to live the way you currently are in the west… you can make the change and do something new at any time.
You can choose to become one of the few that persist, and achieve highly.
The reason that successful have this quality of persistence… is because the failures are unable to persist, to weather the storm… when they fold… that is the protective barrier between your success and theirs.
I personally want everyone to win, but I am also paradoxically glad that there are so many dabblers out there…. that is what affords me the knowledge and confidence that… with intelligence and persistence anything is possible.
Don’t Ever Quit.
